IRON MISSION - EQUIP A BROTHER FOR THE LORD

AUDIT REPORT:

Condition:  Our society is in a continuing decline in moral values.

Cause: The primary cause is that men are not living out their ordained responsibilities to the family and society.

Effect:  Broken households, fatherless children, disillusioned women, infidelity, violence, and general poor role models for the future generations.

Recommendation:   EQUIP A BROTHER FOR THE LORD

IRON MISSION REVEALED –I (Roy McConnell) have committed to training for and competing in the Beach to Battleship iron distance triathlon on November 7, 2009 in North Carolina.  This will be my first iron distance race which will include a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run.  This training is physically demanding and the most challenging mental thing I have done for as long as I can remember.  I am sore and tired but this is a sacrifice for a greater cause.  This race is dedicated to the Lord and his mission of encouraging men to stand up, speak out, and lead those around them to faith.  It is not too late for us to change the world.  I feel a calling for us to start with the men of families – now!  I could not think of anything more important in this world than introducing people to the Lord.  All other societal solutions seem to stem from this single cure.  If you feel the same sense of urgency and need, please consider joining me in this mission with your contributions and/or your prayers.  See the details below:

EQUIP’ING ENDURANCE ATHLETES WITH FAITH TOOLS TO CHANGE THE WORLD
OR …. EQUIP A BROTHER FOR THE LORD

Vision – To make it easy for men to profess their faith with their family, friends and eventually others.

Target Men – Florida men that are involved in endurance sports such as running, cycling, swimming, in-line skating, etc… Specifically men that participate in local, national or international races.

How – Provide race apparel logo’ed with the “Fellowship of Christian Athletes – Endurance Team” to select men that are beginning to come into a faith discovery but lack the confidence to speak openly about their faith.  The apparel will speak for them until their confidence is gained.   As we partner with them, we will assist them by disciplining, mentoring, and training in order for them to share more boldly, vocally.

I HAVE COMMITTED TO MATCH THE FIRST $1,000, DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR, IN THIS EFFORT!

Who will be impacted – The primary focus of this mission is to have family men openly profess their faith to their families.  The Bible states that men are the heads of the households from a spiritual sense and although some may view this as sexist, certainly we will all agree the father’s faith or lack of faith has a dominate effect on the others in the family and extended family.  Further, these men also impact other men as they will be athletically driven, which is looked up to in our current culture.  And as they race in events, those competitors and spectators will also be encouraged in their faith as they see “real men” carrying the cross of the Lord.  My perspective is biased toward men (perhaps because I am a man) and there certainly could be women that need the same encouragement and apparel to equip them for their mission.  Thus the scope of the apparel issuances will not be limited to men.

Background – A passion for encouraging men’s faith and their open acknowledgment of this was put on my heart about 5 years ago.  Further, many family men are on a bad path from a health perspective.  As a result, I formed the Orlando huddle of the FCA-E team because many men are actively involved in endurance sports or need to be involved in order to enhance their health.   This group is open to men and women so all are served.

ADMINISTRATIVE DETAILS

Use of Funds – 50% of the funds will be used to equip Florida athletes as defined above with faith apparel and 50% of the fund will be used by the national office of the FCA-E to be used to further the broader cause of the ministry.

Limitation – The funds will be used to purchase apparel for athletes in the State of Florida where providing apparel will allow them a first step in openly process their faith or for athletes that are open but cannot afford the apparel to testify visually to the world.  Further, anyone that contributes to the fund will not be eligible to receive apparel using fund proceeds.  Lastly, no huddle leader or other leader within FCA will be eligible for the apparel.

Administration – Funds donated will go directly through the FCA donation process.  So the funds will be securely handled and controlled.  The issuance of team apparel will be triggered by a request from a huddle leader in writing, and voted on by all the huddle leaders within the State.  Purchases of the apparel from the fund will be executed by the FCA-E National Director or his designee.  As the internal control genius, I declare this process will prevent any inappropriate use of funds.  This is the advantage of having a CPA and CIA as the catalyst for the plan.

FCA - This stated mission and vision are based on my perspectives, motivations, and calling.  But they are not the full scope of the FCA or FCA-E missions.  I encourage you to visit their web sites and read the full scope of their mission.
